Matins adapted from
Common Service Book fo the Lutheran Church, the Board of Publications of The United Lutheran Church in America, Philadelphia, 1918, with additions from Luther's Small Catechism and prayers from The Service
The Versicle
O LORD, open my lips
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise
Make haste, O God, to deliver me.
Make haste to help me, O Lord.
GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
As it was in the beginnig, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Hallelujah.
The Cofession of Sins
O LORD God our Father, we draw near with a true heart, and confess our sins, beseeching You, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to grant us forgiveness.
Our help is in the Name of the Lord,
Who make heaven and earth.
I said, I will confess my trangressions unto the Lord.
And You forgive the iniquity of my sin.
ALMIGHTY God, our Maker and Redeemer, we poor sinners confess unto You that we are by nature sinful and unclean, and that we have sinned
against You by thought, word, and deed. Wherefore we flee for refuge to Your infinite mercy, seeking and imploring Your grace, for the sake
of our Lord Jesus Christ.
[Forgive us when we don't fear, love, and trust in You above all things.
Forgive us when we curse, swear, demand favors, lie, or deceive by Your name. Forgive us when we don't call upon Your name in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks.
Forgive us when we despise preaching and Your Word. Forgive us when we don't hold Your Word sacred and gladly hear and learn it.
Forgive us when we despise or anger our parents and those in authority over us. Forgive us when we don't honor, serve, obey, and hold them in love and esteem.
Forgive us when we hurt or harm our neighbors in body. Forgive us when we don't help and befriend them in every need and danger of life and body.
Forgive us when we don't lead a chaste and decent life in words and deeds. Forgive us when we don't love and honor our spouse.
Forgive us when we take our neighbors' money or property, or get them by false ware or dealing. Forgive us when we don't help our neighbors to improve and protect their property and business that their means are preserved and their condition is improved.
Forgive us when we deceitfully belie, betray, slander, or defame our neighbors. Forgive us when we don't defend them, think and speak well of them, and put the best construction on everything they say and do.
Forgive us when we craftily seek to get our neighbors' inheritance or house, and obtain it by a show of justice and right. Forgive us when we don't help and be of service to our neighbors in keeping their inheritance [[and status in the community]].
Forgive us when we estrange, force, or entice away our neighbors' spouse, others in relationship to our neighbors, or the things they own. Forgive us when we don't urge them to stay and diligently do their duty.]

O most merciful God, who has given Your Only-begotten Son to die for us, have mercy upon us, and for His sake grant us remission of all
our sins; and by Your Holy Spirit, increase in us true knowledge of You, and of Your will, and true obedience to Your Word, that by Your
grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Absolution
Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, has had mercy upon us, and has given His only Son to die for us, and for His sake forgives us all our sins.
To them that believe on His name, He gives the power to become the sons of God, and bestows on them His Holy Spirit. He that believes, and is
baptized shall be saved. Grant this, O Lord, unto us all. Amen.

Benedictus
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel:
For He has visited and redeemed His people;
And has raiside up a horn of salvation for us:
In the house of His servant David;
As He spoke be the mouth of His holy prophets:
Which have been since the world began;
That we should be saved from our enemies:
And from the hand of all that hate us;
To perform the mercy promised to our fathers:
And to remember His holy covenant;
The oath which He swore to our father Abraham:
That He would grant unto us:
That we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies:
Might serve Him without fear,
In holiness and righteousness before Him:
All the days of our life.
And you, child, shal be called the prophet of the Highest:
And you shall go before the face of the Lord to perpare His ways;
To give knowledge of salvation to His people:
By the remission of their sins.
Through the tender mercy of our God:
Whereby the Dayspring form on high has visited us;
To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death:
To guide our feet into the way of peace.
GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son:
And to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be:
World without end. Amen.

Amen.
Unto You have I cried, O LORD:
And in the morning shall my prayer come before You.
Let my mouth be filled with You praise:
And with Your honor all the day.
O Lord, hide Your face from my sins:
And blot out all my iniquities.
Creat in me, O God, a clean heart:
And renew a right spirit within me.

O Lord, be with us.
The Collect
The Prayer
ALMIGHTY and most Merciful God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: We give You thanks for all Your goodness and tender mercies, especially for the gift of Your dear Son, and for the revelation of Your will and grace; and we beseech You so to implant Your Word in us, that, in good and honest hearts, we may keep it, and bring forth fruit by patient continuance in well doing.
Most heartily we beseech You so to rule and govern Your Church universal, that it may be preserved in the pure doctrine of Your saving Word, whereby faith toward You may be strengthened, and charity increased in us toward all.
Send forth Your light and Your truth unto the uttermost parts of the earth. Raise up faithful pastors and missionaries to preach the Gospel in our own land and to all nations; and guide, protect, and prosper them in all their labors.
Bless, we pray, the institutions of the Church; its colleges, its seminaries, and all its schools; that they may send forth men and women to serve You, in the Ministry of the Word, the Ministry of Mercy, and all the walks of life.
Let the light of Your Word ever shine within our homes. Keep the children of the Church in the covenant which You made with them in Holy Baptism; and grant all parents grace to bring them up in faith toward You and in obedience to Your will.
Grant also health and prosperity to all that are in authority, especially to the President and Congress of the United States, the Governor and Legislature of this State, and to all our Judges and Magistrates; and endue them with grace to rule after Your good pleasure, to the maintenance of righteousness, and to the hindrance and punishment of wickedness, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, in all godliness and honesty.
All who are in trouble, want, sickness, anguish of labor, peril of death, or any other adversity, especially those who are in suffering for Your Name and for Your truth's sake, comfort, O God, with Your Holy Spirit, that they may receive and acknowledge their afflictions as the manifestation of Your fatherly will.
And although we have deserved Your righteous wrath and manifold punishments, yet, we entreat You, O most Merciful Father, remember not the sins of our youth, nor our many transgressions; but out of Your unspeakable goodness, grace and mercy, defend us from all harm and danger of body and soul. Preserve us from false and pernicious doctrine, from war and bloodshed, from plague and pestilence, from all calamity by fire and water, from hail and tempest, from failure of harvest and from famine, from anguish of heart and despair of Your mercy, and from an evil death. And in every time of trouble, show Yourself a very present Help, the Savior of all, and especially of them that believe.
Cause also the needful fruits of the earth to prosper, that we may enjoy them in due season. Give success to all lawful occupations on land and sea: to all pure arts and useful knowledge: and crown them with Your blessing.
These, and whatsoever other things You would have us ask of You, O God, vouchsafe unto us, for the sake of the bitter sufferings and death of Jesus Christ, Your only Son, our Lord and Saviour, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, ever One God, world without end. Amen.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, Who art in heaven: Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come; Thy wil be done on earth, as it is in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil; For Thine is hte kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
The Benediction
O Lord, bless us, and keep us.
O Lord, make Your face shine upon us, and be gracious unto us.
O Lord, lift up Your countenance upon us, and give us peace.
Amen.
