Andy's Cyber Ride: Mojave Desert and Southwest Mountains Railroad G scale garden railroading

August 2008

I worked on this tunnel for a number of days prior to hosting the August meeting of our club (see LNWRR). The day before the meeting, I started the cribbing retaining wall that raised the roadbed to level for entrance into the tunnel, stabilized the earth beneath the tunnel walls, and will hold in the side of the hill through which this tunnel passes. A third loop of track will cross over the top of this tunnel on its way back behind the patio.

I am getting tired of sweeping dirt off the tracks everytime I want to run a locomotive. I finally did something about this problem on what I am calling Tunnel #4. Here a portal and cribbed retaining walls keep the hillside from covering the track.

What's a track (and tunnel) without a train?

The other end of Tunnel #4 also has a new portal and timber retaining walls.

I suppose it is working backwards to add the portals to Tunnel #3 after those of Tunnel #4, but in modeling that is the reality of what sometimes happens. Tunnel #3 did get its portals, as seen above, during the week of August 17 to 23 when I got out to play almost every afternoon.
